We Start Creating: A Nonprofit Launch Supporting Artists from the Ground Up

Social Good Place, where we have an awesome art space.

April 17, 2025

A new creative space and nonprofit initiative focused on access, mentorship, and long-term growth for artists of all ages.

I’m proud to share that I’ve officially launched We Start Creating — a nonprofit organization designed to support artists, students, and creative entrepreneurs through meaningful education, mentorship, and real-world tools.

Our mission is to build a creative infrastructure that begins early and grows with the artist — from age 8 to professional. We’re focused on developing skills and confidence — so students not only learn how to make, but how to talk about their work, present themselves, and build a sustainable creative life.

Backed by Community — and a Space to Match

We Start Creating is fiscally sponsored by The Social Good Place, a nonprofit organization that owns and supports the building we call home. Located in a reimagined church in Portland’s SE Hawthorne neighborhood, the space is a vibrant hub for nonprofits and creatives doing work that matters.

Inside, we’ve carved out a 2,700 sq ft digital and creative media space — designed for collaboration, experimentation, and hands-on learning. As soon as you walk in, you feel the purpose and possibility. We’re incredibly grateful to be part of a space rooted in equity, access, and creative energy.

What We Offer

Our nonprofit work includes:

  • Art camps and youth programs that blend creativity with communication, branding, and confidence-building

  • Adult workshops and 1:1 support for working artists looking to grow their practice or business

  • Family classes that encourage multigenerational creativity and connection

  • Free classes, open house events, and community access, with a focus on reaching underrepresented voices

Most importantly, we’re building with community and inclusion at the core — offering scholarships and sliding scale tuition to ensure no one is left out based on income.

Join Us

We’re just getting started, and we’re looking for collaborators, educators, and supporters who want to help us shape the next generation of artists — not just creatively, but professionally and personally.

Whether you’re in Portland or across the country, I’d love to connect, share more, and grow together.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey so far.
